Danny cooks the stars from heaven
After 3 weeks of corona, he had to stay at home for his employer in Utrecht, as a Brabanter. In his daily work he hosts and facilitates meetings and other gatherings. He is energetic, likes to interact with people and wondered how he would fill these weeks of being forced at home. “I didn't like vacuuming my house a hundred times,” he says. “I really didn't want to get bored and thought that I should use my energy for others. After all, there is a lot of hard work being done in other places.” Danny may not be a chef by profession, but because of his work he has a lot of affinity with cooking and often does this at home as a hobby chef. “I saw on TV how hard the people in the hospitals had to work. Coming home exhausted from work and then cooking the daily fare for your family…..I wanted to do something for those people, among other things”. He contacted Coronahulp Oosterhout and they knew who needed a freshly prepared meal. He bought the necessary stuff and started making some meals for others. “Be careful,” says Danny. “I really only cook for people who would normally cook for themselves. I certainly don't want to get in the way of the hospitality industry. Anyone who normally eats somewhere can now have it brought home, but not everyone can afford that.” As is often the case with good initiatives, this action by Danny also stood out. He soon received support from entrepreneurs. “As a matter of principle, I always buy my own stuff from local entrepreneurs and then they want to do something for you in return”. He was sponsored, among other things, kilos of minced meat and soup vegetables. “I work from my own kitchen at the moment, so I can't process large numbers, but I get so much cooperation that I am now approaching my network to see if we can do this on a larger scale somewhere temporarily”. Danny cooks, but is happy that Coronahulp Oosterhout arranges the coordination and delivery for him. “Those people are really fantastic and are doing their very best to arrange as much as possible for the people who can use it now”. And Danny makes himself happy. “I've always wanted to be a chef and now I can do something for someone else with cooking. If you can do that, it will make you happy.”
Doing nothing is nothing for me.

Corona post for the elderly
Corona post for the elderly making cards :) It is Friday afternoon and the children are coming home from school. The atmosphere changes when they hear that their dance class, athletics training and the theater performance (my daughter's birthday present) are canceled because of corona. I explain that that is very annoying but that there are people who are hit harder. Like the elderly who are now alone because their visitors have a cold at home. can't you help those people? After the children have thought about what I have explained, the youngest of 6 asks me if I can't help those people because 'you work at NLvoorelkaar and you help people, right?' Unfortunately, we don't have a solution for corona, but it does give me an idea. The children are immediately enthusiastic and a friend is also called in: we are going to make cards and write for the residents of the nursing home around the corner. Shall I write a joke on it? But what do you write on such a card? Because we don't know those people. After some brainstorming, the idea arises to also write jokes on it, because "we want to cheer those people up, don't we?". Perfect idea. Just before dinner we walk to the nursing home and ask the employees which of their residents is most in need of some distraction. They all are in these times! Fortunately, we have worked hard and there are 16 elderly people who we can delight with cheerful mail! And when the schools close, we know an activity ;) Share these stories and inspire others to help too! Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Whatsapp Forward
