introduce yourself: Tilly
Tilly worked in care for 45 years and is now AutoMaatje
She worked full-time in healthcare for 45 years, always looking after others, and then she became seriously ill herself. “It was a tough period,” says Tilly. “I became bald from the chemo, but luckily it worked. I now feel good again and only use tablets”.
At AutoMaatje your wishes and possibilities are taken into account
Because of her illness she was housebound a lot and, although she had a lot of run-ins, she didn't like it. January 1 was the day that she turned the switch. She wanted to be positive in life again and mean something to others. While searching the internet, she came across AutoMaatje. “They were looking for drivers and it immediately appealed to me. At AutoMaatje, your wishes and possibilities are taken into account and you can indicate yourself at what time you are available or not to drive for others”.
I felt sorry for her and wanted to be there for her
Her first ride didn't go as expected. Tilly escorted someone to the hospital. The appointment was at ten o'clock, but it got completely out of hand. Madame was sent from one department to another. Tilly could have decided to go home, but couldn't. “I canceled my own appointments. Of course I could have arranged a taxi for Mrs., but I felt sorry for her and wanted to be there for her. That is what concerns are there.” Finally, Tilly was home at seven that day. But Tilly wouldn't be Tilly if this out-of-control ride scared her off. "No of course not. Such a rare occurrence and the fact that I encountered it was purely coincidental.
I need company and meet different people through AutoMaatje
I am now retired. I'm not bored, because I often sit behind the sewing machine, I crochet, I walk to the best of my ability and I'm already looking forward to being able to accompany someone to a Christmas market. But I need company and I meet different people through AutoMaatje. Coming November 2, for example, a first aid course with lunch has been arranged for us as drivers. There I speak to my colleagues. And during my rides I also meet nice people. You have a chat, drink a cup of coffee together and sometimes we also have something delicious with it. It's really very rewarding to do. When people say afterwards that it was fun with me, my day is good again”. Tilly has indicated that he wants to ride 2 to 3 times a week for others for the time being. The people at AutoMaatje take this into account as much as possible.
During my rides I also meet nice people

Elvera is looking for a buddy
Elvera is looking for a buddy She has a beautiful view from her apartment. She is enterprising, sporty and likes to have fun. Elvera is 47 years old and has a son, who partly lives with her. She is not bored, but she misses someone to do something fun with. Because of her enthusiasm, you would almost forget that she walks with 2 lower leg prostheses. In 2013, things went wrong with her health, causing her to lose her lower legs. But Elvera is an enormous go-getter and now she can do a lot independently again. “I can walk short distances, but otherwise I have a wheelchair, a hand bike and a scooter. So I am reasonably mobile and enterprising, but alone is only alone”, says Elvera. “It would be nice if I had a buddy to do fun things together. I like going out with my hand bike and I spend many hours with my hobby “diamond painting”, but I can also enjoy a drink on a terrace or play a game”. Another hobby of Elvera is swimming. She prefers to be in the pool every week. “Once I'm in it, I swim like a fish, but I do need some help getting into the pool with the elevator. Due to the limitations of corona, it was difficult for me to find help with this, but now that more is possible, I hope to find a buddy who not only helps me get into the pool, but who also swims with me and a cup of coffee afterwards does to me”. If you want to be that buddy, you can contact Oosterhoutvoorelkaar! Once I'm in it, I swim like a fish" Share these stories and inspire others to help too! Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Whatsapp Forward
