Rene's story
A few years ago, the “Giveaway Corner” started in Activities Center De Bunthoef. René: ”The Giveaway Corner was set up to give useful items a second chance. People who cannot easily buy something, regularly find something they need with us”. Together with his colleague Nel, René checks the equipment for usability. They see clothing, books, decoration and kitchen items, among other things. René is working on it every working day. “Early last year I was asked to tackle this. Initially I was working on it for a few hours a week, but now it is 5 days a week”. René is clear about his motivation: “It gives me satisfaction when I am doing something meaningful. For me it makes sense if I notice that I make others happy with what I do. Their enthusiasm motivates me to continue with this.” He hopes to be able to expand the “Giveaway Corner” in the future. “The space we have now is very tight.”
It gives me satisfaction when I am doing something meaningful.
Natascha offers help
Natascha about her volunteer work “Recently I helped someone in a precarious situation. When that lady called me her bright spot, I remembered what I'm doing it for." She works as a volunteer for the CDA and for the Oosterhout Kidney Foundation, but she is mostly involved in church activities as a volunteer. “At church, I mainly focus on activities for youth and young adults. We want to radiate hospitality, because we think it is important that people feel welcome with us. Especially in this time when corona reigns, it is important that people feel heard. In our community, people should feel safe and I try to do my part." Volunteering was born to her. It comes naturally to her. Natascha is moved: ”I recently helped someone in a precarious situation. When that lady called me her bright spot, I remembered what I'm doing it for." People often don't dare to ask for help. They are unnecessarily ashamed. When Natascha finds out about the problem, she often affects people when they are at their most vulnerable. She offers help where necessary and gets a lot of love in return. “You couldn't have a better motivation,” says Natascha. Share these stories and inspire others to help too!
