What is a Social Internship (MaS)?
A Social Internship is an unpaid internship that you do at a social organization and/or association.
Social internship means getting acquainted with volunteer work.
If you participate in the social internship you are an "assistant volunteer".
By participating, you get to know your own environment in a different way, you do something for someone else and thus contribute to (Oosterhout) society.
If you are in secondary education (aged 13 to 18), the social internship can be part of the curriculum, for example in citizenship, social studies or philosophy of life.
The Social Internship can be part of the educational program and is a form of extracurricular learning.
Through voluntary activities, students actively become acquainted with all kinds of aspects of society. This increases social involvement, awareness of norms and values and stimulates active citizenship.
All students of Frencken College, Hanze College, Effent Mavo, Zwaaikom practical school or Oelbert gymnasium pay attention to the Social Internship. As of August 2015, quite a bit has changed. Ask at your school how things will be arranged from then on.
Volunteer work
Social Internship is voluntary work: doing something unpaid for someone else and at the same time working on your personal development. You discover the importance of volunteering and you see how many things volunteers do for society. You will experience that it is a lot of fun to do. In addition to being fun, you also experience a lot of satisfaction from your work as a volunteer. You will see that there are many organizations and associations in the municipality of Oosterhout that organize fun activities that run wholly or partly on the power of volunteer work.
Internship
There are many organizations and associations that are looking for volunteers. You can largely determine the choice for a Social Internship yourself. Your school's internship coordinators must approve the internship.
An internship is approved if it meets the following conditions:
- The activity you do is done at a non-profit organization, social organization or association.
- This is unpaid work.
- It is not about family care.
- The activity you are doing must be performed outside of school hours.
What to do?
Students can search for an internship themselves on Oosterhoutvoorelkaar.nl. (Go directly to the overview Social Internship . Are you looking for a specific internship? Then use filters and the 'more option' field). If you have found an internship position but you are not sure whether it meets the above conditions, please contact the internship coordinator at school.
Register yourself as a volunteer first. After all, you offer your hours as a volunteer. As soon as you have registered, you can contact the requesting agency via the ad you found.
